Reception Addition Worksheets
Our reception addition worksheets provide material to introduce addition and subtraction in the early years. Children play co-cooperatively, taking turns with others. They take account of one another’s ideas about how to organize their activity. This creates a sense of togetherness in children.
In early year classes learning is done by playing. So play games that relate to addition and subtraction, such as hopscotch and skittles and other target games.
This section will cover the reception addition worksheets and other learning resources and ideas We will try to guide Early Year Learning providers and children to excel in addition and subtraction
Calculating simple addition and subtraction
The addition is the most basic concept of mathematics. After learning Numbers and Counting, the next thing is addition and subtraction in maths class.
The addition of two numbers is the add up of one with another. While subtraction of a number is the take away of one from others.
The calculation is introduced by the collection and sorting of things of the same attributes. Further one-more and one-less strategies are used to start addition and subtraction concepts.
It is a good idea to introduce counting skills with visual objects. I find these very useful for my kids when they were starting their learning ladder. “As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.”
Early Years Learning.
Maths for children should be meaningful. There are a lot of different ways to introduce additions and subtraction in little brains. We must use fun ways of introduction with our everyday life and using basic things around us.
Numicon shapes are introduced straight away and should be used to:
• Identify 1 more/less
• Combine pieces to add
• Find number bonds
• Add without counting.
Recording Numbers in Learning.
1 Children should be encouraged to read number sentences aloud in different ways.
2 + 4 = 6
“Two add Four equals 6”, “6 is equal to two and four” or
“ 6 is the same as 2 and 4”.
2- Children solve simple problems using fingers.
3- Introduce the number of tracks to count-up on and to find one more:
What is one more than 3?
4- Use number lines alongside number tracks and practical apparatus to solve addition calculations and word problems.
